I am involved in work package 2 of the SURF STAD project which focuses on automated driving in freight transportation. To be more specific, my research takes a look at truck platoons. A truck platoon is a set of trucks that drive very closely behind one another. Benefits of platooning include a reduction in the overall transport costs (fuel and labor) and societal benefits (emissions and road utilizations). As part of my research, I aim to develop planning methods so that platoons can be formed efficiently so the benefits are maximized. This will be done from the operations research and behavioral perspectives.
